A Ziplock bag of Memories, Thursday, January 23, 2014
HELLO there...whatcha doin'? Staying Warm? It is FREEZING here...but I must remind us all to pray for those who don't have the money to pay their electric bills, those who have no roof over their head and those who struggle to survive during this cold spell...I AM BLESSED!
I've been looking at some more pictures and it's too cold to paint this week, so I've been remembering....
I have NO CLUE what the REAL story behind this picture is, BUT I THINK My Aunt Lattie, Daddy's only sister wanted Mother to take a picture of me SIMILAR to this picture...I do NOT know IF this is a family member or just a picture she found that she thought was cute--NO CLUE....
AWWWWWW....aren't I cute...
I was about 3 in this picture...It wasn't too long from this age when Mother DID teach me and my brother to knit...She would do just about ANYTHING to keep us from FIGHTING...
LOL...My Aunt would come to visit from California and would tell Mother she HAD to leave because Brian and I were so BAD...;)...ALL I've got to say is that I am CERTAIN it was NOT my fault...
For some reason, I think I look like a RABBIT in this picture! guess I have EASTER on my mind...
I have a picture in one of the many boxes of pictures where Mother took a picture similar to this of my niece...I'll have to pull it out another day...BUT IF this was a tradition, I thought I had better get a picture of MY child with the "ka-nittin'" needles...SOOOOOOOO...
I've shared with you many times on Facebook that we have had friends from all walks of life and that lived all over the world. I'm not really sure HOW my parents met these people. I THINK they were friends of Uncle Bud's family that lived in Chicago...This is a picture of our SCANDALOUS friends, Mr. and Mrs. Knapp--THEY owned a NUDIST colony!...BWAH! That is Aunt Ellen on the right...she was Uncle Bud's sister and taught at Dozier, where Daddy went to school. Dozier was a one-room school...
I have also shared many times that my Mother LOVED to be with friends and to entertain. This is a picture of Daddy (left) with Ella and James Drake who belonged to the ROOK gang...couples would gather at different homes to play the card game ROOK...The funny thing about Miss ELLA was that one night she shared that she didn't marry a certain person BECAUSE his last name was Goosetree and she just could NOT stand the thought of being a GOOSE...SO INSTEAD, she married a DRAKE! LOL...
Dr. Stone was our family doctor and he was a close family friend...we shared so many fun times together with him and Miss "Cil"...Dr. Stone delivered all three of us! I still drive by their home sometimes when I feel nostalgic...it makes me sad to see some of those houses in that part of town lived in by people who don't LOVE their homes...sigh...This was taken in Dec of 1967, I was 5, Brian was 7 and Bob was 15.
This is a picture just to make Miss Marian smile...Another picture of my 5th Birthday...Brian, 7, Martha Dale, 5 and Me...
Another picture of Me, Brian and Marcia...3 Musketeers!
I GUESS, even when I was 9 months old, I KNEW that I would get to spend some time with YOU today...SO it made me smile...Mother said that I was pretty grouchy sometimes...AND that I ALWAYS disagreed with her...SHE said IF she said the sky was BLUE, I would say, No, it's grey...I don't think I was being disagreeable...I KNEW THEN that I was an artist and I wanted the TRUTH to be know..WELL, that is MY story and I'm sticking to it...
Such fun memories...WHO KNEW that a little ziplock bag of pictures could bring back SO MANY memories to me...SMILES AND Tears...I HOPE that you have some good memories...it makes me sad to think that some kids will NEVER know the love and joy that I have...ALWAYS smile at a child...WELL, ALWAYS smile at PEOPLE~you NEVER know the heartache they may have...SPREAD THE LOVE...Blessings to YOU...~charlotte♥
Thanks for sharing more pictures. I couldn't help but chuckle when i saw the first one. I loved phones! When my grandparents would go on a trip, Grandma would ask me what i wanted her to bring me & i'd always say "phone!". tee hee {{{hugs}}}
ReplyDeleteAND I thought you would like our SCANDALOUS friends....BWAH
DeleteIt's a wonder that mother would not have been on the phone...SHE TALKED on the phone ALL DAY long...LOL...It's an antique now...;)

ReplyDeleteI KNOW...AND it was in the 60s...WOA...gotta love those naked people!! sigh...BWAH!!
DeleteSo much fun to look back...thinking of all the fun I had as a kid on my grandparent's farms! One was a dirt farm and the other a milk farm. Loads of work on both, but as a kid you don't realize how much work it was!!
ReplyDeleteWe are about the same age, yet I love that your "kid is knitting" and I have teenagers! Actually Charlotte I am about a year older then you!
Thanks for sharing and making me think back to some really good memories!
Enjoy your day,
Barb
LOL...you OLD woman...ROFL!! EVERYTHING that we HAD to do was such a swap-off to be able to run through mud puddles barefooted and to feel that warm freshly plowed dirt between my toes! OR to have a baby calf suck on my hand...SO FUNNY!! I hope that you will be sitting and painting and ALL of a sudden you will SMILE when a memory smacks your heart! =)
ReplyDeleteI loved them all! So much fun to see Charlotte! They are truly wonderful! xoxo Sheila
