Let's Start at the Very Beginning...Saturday, December 7, 2013

I guess I need to go back to MY beginnings to give you an idea of WHO I am…We will see how this goes, BUT do NOT expect me to stay on task…I tend to go in another direction EVERY time I turn around!

My Daddy, Robert, was born in Robertson County in 1923 to a sharecropper.  He had one older Sister—Lattie, and two older brothers—Edgar Fort and J. P. (John Presley).  His mother died from pneumonia when Daddy was 22 months old.  At that time, his Father allowed him to be raised by his Uncle Bud and Aunt Jenny, who had no children.  Granddaddy Ephriam (we have some VERY bad names in my family) allowed them to raise him, but made it CLEAR that he would ALWAYS be his Father and did NOT allow them to adopt him.  He moved into the house that he lived in his ENTIRE life until his death at 80 in 2003.  He was a farmer who loved the land and worked with his hand and he was loved by so many.  I KNOW that NOBODY is liked by all, but I have never heard anyone say something bad about him…good thing, because I THINK I would have to hit them!   I was a Daddy’s girl like you would NOT believe!  HE was my best friend and the hole in my heart STILL has yet to be filled.  You will get to know him PERSONALLY through my posts.  NO, I do NOT see him through rose-colored glasses.  He was a GOOD MAN.  He was not the kind of person who VOCALLY expressed his love, but he LOVED people and would pick on those his liked….hmmm…family trait, I think!  He could NOT tell a joke, but he sure would try!

My Mother was born in Baren Plains, a small community in Robertson County in 1932 to an EXTREMELY poor family with eight children—George, Harold, Walter, Jimmy, Becky, Sybil, Mary and Martha.  Mother was a twin.  Her Daddy was a troubled man.  He was BRILLIANT.  He graduated from College in three years and was forced to come back to work on the farm and he HATED it.  I think the anger that filled him made him miserable and all those around him.  He was killed in a mining accident in Colorado when Mother was four.  Granny, worked so hard to provide for her children and the community helped to raise Mother’s family.  Mother moved quite often.  Her older siblings were so good to her to make sure that she had what she needed.  Mother LOVED her Mother.  WELL, the ONE thing you will learn about my Mother was that she LOVED everybody.  I am NOT just saying those words, BECAUSE those who hurt her and cut her heart to the core STILL were ALWAYS treated with kindness and with forgiveness.  I looked at this trait as a weakness—GOD is proving to me EVERY day how WRONG I was.  Mother was one of the best cooks you could find.  She could make biscuits with one hand tied and blindfolded—Daddy HATED biscuits!!  LOL…She was so creative and could take nothing and make it into a thing of beauty.  She could sew and do just about anything that she wanted.  She made suits for each of the boys and I never had a bought dress until I was 13 years old.  She knitted and there are some funny stories about that.  She had a WICKED sense of humor—a family trait.  I have often said that God gave her family a sense of humor to help deal with the horrible challenges they faced.  Mother was a TRUE REFLECTION of God’s love.  IF she didn’t get to Heaven, THEN NOBODY need ever attempt…BUT believe me…she and Daddy and their family and friends are having a party right this moment as we speak because THEY BOTH LOVED LIFE and I am SURE they are enjoying their ETERNAL LIFE even more!  Mother was LOVED by many…

Soooo…that ought to give you a bit of information about my parents.  You will KNOW them and love them too as I share more of THEM…

Take a few moments today and reflect on WHO you are and what your roots are.  I KNOW many of you do NOT want to take THAT journey, but you MUST know from where you CAME to get to where you are GOING…Fasten your seatbelts…we are going to take the trip TOGETHER…it MIGHT get a bit bumpy…

Have a GREAT day and share a SMILE with someone today…it MIGHT be the best thing that happens to THEM…Blessings to YOU…~charlotte
